Me and My Shadow: Exploring your Hidden Self
Weekend Retreat Sponsored by MEN MENTORING MEN
“People who avoid shadow scare me.” ― Fierce Dolan
“There is strong shadow where there is much light.” ― Goethe
Looking at shadow takes courage but there are rewards. The men who come face to face with shadow can develop greater tolerance for others, feel less anxious, venture deeper into intimacy and relationships, and can have a greater capacity to enjoy the beauty and bounty of life.
Often men seek comfort by hiding the parts of their personality they judge as unacceptable, embarrassing, or shameful. Over time, these hidden parts become the shadow side of personality or the unexpressed and unlived dimensions of life. Lack of fulfillment or suffering is not caused by the presence of shadow; it is simply part of our humanity. However, it is the fear and avoidance of shadow that can generate self-destructive patterns.
The shadow does not exist without light. The goal of the weekend retreat is to strengthen the light in the men who participate.
Attendees will emerge from the weekend with greater self-awareness, deeper self-respect, and expanded life possibilities.
Dr. Ed Adams, a psychologist and founder of MEN MENTORING MEN, will facilitate the workshop within an atmosphere of emotional safety. This dynamic experience includes small and large group interactions, art, self-reflection, visual aids, and experiential exercises. It is designed for participants to meaningfully respond to questions such as:
What is my shadow?
1. How does my shadow help or hinder life satisfaction?
2. What is the connection between fear and shadow?
3. Is shadow holding back my creativity?
4. Can understanding shadow help me become happier?
5. Is there any virtue in shadow? What could it be?
6. Does the shadow grow or shrink with age?
This will be a challenging and highly rewarding weekend. As you may notice, your decision to attend Me and My Shadow: Exploring Your Hidden Self is a courageous and possibly confronting decision. This means the work of the shadow has already begun.
