Men Mentoring Men – ‘Man of the Year’

Men Mentoring Men
‘Man of the Year’

At the end of every year, the president of M3 has the privilege of presenting the President’s Award to a deserving member of our organization. This is the 12th year for the award, which is memorialized by the addition of each  recipient’s name to a plaque displayed at our men’s center in Somerville.

The previous award winners are:

Ira Eisenstein, 1999
Phil Cohen, 2000
Bill Dudeck, 2001
Ron LaDucer, 2002
Rich Schneider, 2003
Jeff Lindner, 2004
Jeff Rowden, 2005
Ron Iannacone, 2006
Bob Craig, 2007
John Kolanko, 2008
Robert Hackman, 2009

Greg Kusic, 2010

Richard Horowitz, 2011

I feel very fortunate and am humbled to be on this list. I have known most of the other 10 award recipients for many years, and they all embody — in one way or another — a passion for life and the best of masculinity. They have inspired us all.

This year, the President’s Award goes to a man who has not only achieved major positive changes in his own life, but has contributed significantly to the success of our organization. That man is Greg Kusic, a founding member of M3 who has served as President, Board member, Trustee, Group Leader, legal advisor and organizer of many events. Through the years, he has guided this organization by helping to develop our bylaws, our goals and our vision. Greg has done much, and yet he still finds the time for special projects such as our video and our book efforts.

But these types of activities alone didn’t determine who receives this year’s President’s Award. For that, we have to look at the transition we’ve witnessed in Greg’s personal and professional life — his unwavering love for his partner, Elaine, his absolute support of his family, his total commitment to completing his second Marine Corps Marathon, and the strides he’s made to better organize his professional life.

For Greg’s recent performance at our Talent Show, he chose “CHANGE” as his theme, and he talked about the changes he’s made and is committed to making. Those of us who’ve known Greg through the years are well aware of the changes in Greg’s life since 1991; however, none are as dramatic as those made in 2010.

He is an inspiration to all who come into contact with him. His inner strength and his dedication to living his truths serve as a model for all the men of M3. Greg is both mentor and friend to those of us who know him, and it is my pleasure to honor him with this year’s President’s award.
