Men Mentoring Men – ‘Man of the Year’
Men Mentoring Men
‘Man of the Year’
Each year at our annual holiday party, the president of M3 has the privilege to present the President’s award to a member of M3. The tradition began ten years ago and is symbolized with the recipient’s name added to a plaque displayed at the M3 center. The plaque states that the award is for the “Recognition of a man who confronts life and inspires courage”. The previous winners have all demonstrated these qualities in different forms, and with varied approaches to life’s challenges, but their common threads are ones that we can all aspire to. For me the best of masculinity can be found in a man who is thoughtful, sincere, honest and vulnerable. It is from these core values that a man can meet life’s challenges in ways that allows for personal growth and living an expansive life. With that in mind this year’s award goes to Robert Hackman. Robert has been involved with M3 for about 5 years, and in that period of time has established himself as a core and valued member of his Thursday night group. He has shown added belief in our organization by becoming a member of the board of trustees, and shares in the larger vision and mission of M3. Robert has volunteered to become point man on the issue of expansion within M3 and this looms as a very important topic for our organization as we head into the New Year. Robert has recently faced some very difficult life challenges, but his courage to be both vulnerable and honest has helped guide him to a more harmonious place. He is a tenacious family man whose love and thoughtfulness has helped him endure a very difficult 2 years, and he should be seen as an inspiration to all. His dedication and inner strength towards living his truths are examples that can help to serve as a model for all the men of M3. Robert is both mentor and friend to all who know him, and it is my pleasure to give him this year’s award.
Sincerely,
Paul Rodriguez – President M3
